HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
If you are anything like us you have spent the last few days eating, relaxing, reflecting, partying and now the exciting planning stage has begun for the year ahead. Just like a blank canvas that sense of anticipation and excitement takes over and we begin to question what we want to make of the year ahead.
We recommend taking 5 minutes out during your daily meditation to think about what one word describes the thing you most want this year to bring. We did this and the word PEACE came to mind which is significant in many aspects of our lives and surroundings.
Read our 10 tips for overhauling your home to ensure your space enhances the sense of PEACE we require in our busy, chaotic day to day lives.
1. ORGANISE YOUR UNDERWEAR DRAWER, IT WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE WE PROMISE!
Pile knickers on top of one another and you will never search for a pair in your underwear drawer again, this sounds like the most simplest of tasks but it is very effective. Alongside this, arrange bras in rows from front to back in colour codes with socks and tights on the other side. You are welcome :)
2. COLOUR CODE YOUR WARDROBE
You will be able to throw outfits together much quicker and easier on those mornings..
3. BRING JOY, PRACTICALITY OR BE GONE!
If the object in question is doing nothing but collecting dust, get rid! Try where you can to stick to the rules whereby if the object does not bring you joy or mean you are more time efficient then it is time to say goodbye.
4. PLAN YOUR MEALS
Make a list of 10-15 of you and your families favourite easy to make meals and rotate. You will never have to spend time agonising over what to make again :)
5. ORGANISE YOUR REFRIGERATOR
Empty it first so you can give it a good clean and make sure leftovers are in clear tubs so you know what you have. Eggs should go in the area where temperature fluctuates the least (the middle) and milk should go at the back where it is coolest. Meat should go in the bottom where it is not likely to drip on other items.
6. FILL YOUR TERRARIUMS
Terrariums are so much fun to create and last so much longer than flowers do, meaning you will experience the benefit of having real living plants for a lot longer in as many rooms as you wish.
7. TAKE AN HOUR OUT TO UNSUBSCRIBE TO THOSE UNWANTED EMAILS
Unsubscribe to unwanted mailing lists and take time to add all your favourite websites (including Smashing Interiors!) to your bookmarks bar.
8. GIVE YOUR FRONT DOOR A CLEAN
Multiple people can walk in and out of the front door every day. Make it all shiny and clean and imagine how much better it will feel walking through it after a hectic day in the office.
9. SORT THE BLANKET BOX
Don't let blankets and throws get forgotten about in the blanket box, freshen them up and place on the end of beds and over the arms of chairs to add a cosy, welcoming feel to the room.
10. RECYCLE & SHRED OLD MAGAZINES AND LETTERS
This is a tricky one as inspiration can often be found in old magazines but try your best with this one. Using the shredder on old bank statements is an easy one however and will encourage you to keep on top of your filing system with a good sort through.
We hope you enjoy a PEACEFUL and prosperous 2017, from all at Smashing Interiors :)

WE DID IT!
Our first ever market and WOW it was fun... exhausting... but fun!!
We loved every second of showcasing all our HAND MADE, ETHICALLY SOURCED, FAIR TRADE OR RECYCLED items to the world... or at least to Newbury where they were highly welcomed thankfully :)
If you are local please come and see us at the next market 'Shabbytique' in Maidenhead next month.
Here are a few pictures from Newbury...
We were lucky enough to visit one of our favourite artists Georgia O'Keefe at the Tate Modern in London this weekend. Loved for her straight talking (biting back to critics who often misinterpreted her work) and mind blowing use of colour, this is one exhibition not to be missed.
Here are a few of our absolute favourites we are sure to be buying prints of very soon.. enjoy but don't miss out on seeing for yourself, exhibition ends on 30th October.
